Every Wednesday at 8:00pm The Nelson Arms runs a good old-fashioned pen-and-paper pub quiz, not the faddish phone quiz: general knowledge and a picture round, then Play Your Cards Right on our giant wooden board for a rolling cash jackpot. £1 per team member, no booking, no screens — tables fill from 7:30pm.
How the night runs
Seven-thirty for a table. Eight for the first question.
It’s the same shape every week, so you always know where you are. Turn up, get a drink at the bar, and settle in — nobody is rushing you out at the end.
- From 4:00pm: the pub opens and the pick of the tables is yours.
- 7:30pm: tables start filling. This is the time to arrive if you want the good seats.
- 8:00pm: the quiz starts — general knowledge and a picture round, on pen and paper.
- After the final round: Play Your Cards Right on the giant board, then two bonus raffles so there’s still a chance to win.
- 10:30pm: it’s all over, and the bar stays open until 11.
Play Your Cards Right
A giant board, oversized cards, a jackpot that rolls.
The quiz is only half the night. Once the final round is marked, we play Play Your Cards Right — the card game off the telly — on a wooden board big enough to see from the back of the room. Call the next card higher or lower, and the cash jackpot gets closer. If nobody takes it, it rolls into the next week.

General knowledge
The backbone of the night — a proper mix, from the confidently obvious to the one nobody in the room gets. Nobody has to be a specialist to hold their own.

Pen and paper, no phones. There’s no music round, but there is a picture round to test your eye. Pencils are on the table.

Getting here
Five minutes from Morley town hall
We’re on Victoria Road in the middle of Morley, so a quiz night is a short walk home for most of the town — and an easy run in from the villages and Leeds.
- On foot: About a 5-minute walk (0.3 miles) from Morley Town Hall and Queen Street.
- By bus: Bus routes 51 and 52 from Leeds city centre stop on Victoria Road, within two minutes’ walk of the front door.
- By train: Morley railway station is about 0.7 miles away — roughly a 14-minute walk — with trains to Leeds every 30 minutes (around 9 minutes).
- By car: Free on-site car park with around 12 spaces, plus free on-street parking on Victoria Road.
The car park fills up early on quiz nights, so if you’re driving, come for 7:30pm. Coming with a big group? Tell us beforehand and we’ll make sure there’s room.

It is the card game we play after the quiz rounds, on a giant wooden board with oversized cards. It runs every Wednesday straight after the last round, and the cash jackpot rolls over from week to week.
What time should I arrive for the quiz?
We open at 4pm on a Wednesday and tables start filling from 7:30pm. The quiz itself starts at 8pm.
What rounds are in the quiz?
